This November, you can celebrate 10 years of chalk at the Chalk Festival, right here in Venice, Florida. As always, this festival is the chance for artists to show off their amazing skills with chalk to create fine art and 3-D illusions that will wow you.
Where and When
This year’s Chalk Festival will be from Nov. 10 to 13, lasting the full weekend from Friday to Monday. Each day, the festival goes from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is at the Venice Airport Festival Fairgrounds, which is at 900 Airport Ave. E.
What to Expect at the Chalk Festival
During the Chalk Festival, visitors get to watch as artists make their masterpieces. They use chalk on the road surfaces, making oversized fine art and 3-D interactive illusions. The way that attendees interact with artists helps humanize the artwork and create a unique experience. The organizers refer to this event as a “Museum in Motion” since you get to see the artwork evolve.
Ticket Choices and Which Day to Attend
On Friday, tickets are just $5, and by the end of the day, the artists working on traditional 12-foot-by-12-foot works of art will be about one-third done. Keep in mind that artists of the larger interactive pieces begin working as early as Nov. 4 so they can be about halfway done when the day begins.
By the end of the day on Saturday, the majority of the 3-D interactive illusions are done and most traditional paintings will be two-thirds done. Admission that day is $10. By the end of the day on Sunday, the art is all finished. Much is actually done by noon. Admission is $15, and this is your last chance to actually watch the artists work and interact with them.
The artists are typically gone by Monday, when admission is $10, but you still get to view their artwork. The best deal is a multiday pass for unlimited access every day of the event, which is $25.
More Than Art
In addition to walking along and admiring the art, attendees at the Chalk Festival can listen to live music. You will also get the chance to talk to artists as they finish up their work or when they are done. New for this year, there will even be hot air balloon rides available to give you a truly amazing view of the works of art. There will also be food trucks on-site, along with beverages for sale, including spirits. So, you don’t have to worry about getting hungry or thirsty as you enjoy the art.
Young and Young at Heart Area
If you didn’t get the chance to sign up to participate in the Chalk Festival, you can still participate on the day of the event. Just head over to the Young and Young at Heart area. You get a significantly smaller area and chalk to create your own masterpiece.
