In Sarasota, there’s an attraction you won’t be able to find anywhere else. The Ringling is part museum, part theater, part gardens, and all a fascinating educational adventure. And the whole organization is focused around the history of one couple- John and Mable Ringling.
Some parts of the Ringling are available any time. The Museum of Art has a great collection of paintings form European artists and an enclosed courtyard with replicas of famous sculptures. You can find rotating exhibits here, too, so there’s always something new to take in. The Museum of Art is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and stays open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
The Circus Museum is another major part of the Ringling. John Ringling was one of the famed Ringling brothers, so this museum really highlights his business legacy. You can see props, costumes, and interactive exhibits. Don’t miss the 44,000-piece Howard Bros. Circus Model. It’s incredible to see the big show in miniature. The Circus Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day, with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. One ticket gets you access to both museums. Tickets are $25 per adult and $5 per child.
You have to book a tour in advance, but you can also see inside the Ca’ d’Zan. This amazing piece of architecture was John and Mable Ringling’s home. It was inspired by the Venetian Gothic style of architecture and constructed in the 1920s. Space is limited in the tours, so be sure to call ahead. You won’t want to miss this.

Historic Asolo Theater
One of the best parts of the Ringling is the beautiful historic Asolo Theater. This theater was originally created in Asolo, Italy, in 1798 and brought to Sarasota in the 1950s. It went through a major restoration in 2006. Now you can see live and on-screen performances throughout the year.
