What Is Plein Air Painting?
Plein air painting means “open-air painting.” It’s a type of artistry that forces you to leave the walls of your studio. Instead, you get out and paint what’s in front of you. While this type of painting has been common for centuries, the French impressionists really made it into the artform it is today. Their beautiful landscapes with an array of seemingly random colors captured what it was like to be in nature, and other artists followed suit.
Tips for Plein Air Painting
Even if you are a seasoned artist, you should know that plein air painting comes with its own unique challenges and considerations. Check out these tips before you get out in the open.
- Use an Easel – This is going to be the easiest way to construct your setup. Without an easel, you will be left trying to find a way to hold everything you need. Make sure it is as sturdy as possible, so you can focus on the painting instead of adjusting your canvas constantly.
- Wear Light-Colored and Neutral Colors – You don’t want your clothing to be a distraction from the scene you’re painting. You also don’t want to get too hot if you’re standing in the sun.
- Find a Place for Your Palette – Instead of holding your palette, find a way to put it next to you. This way, you have easy access to it and don’t have to worry about it until you need it.
You’re going to create a work of art, but you can find some other masterpieces at Venice Honda in Venice, Florida. We have plenty of beautiful and functional cars that will take you all around Venice and beyond.
